The Community Educators' Summer Institute (The Institute)  is a two-day training program that will offer opportunities for community-based organizations to constructively evaluate their current academic support programs and to ensure that programs are student-centered, relevant to the school day, aligned with district and state academic standards in core content areas, as well as, engaging and appropriately challenging.  Additionally, the Institute will offer participating organizations staff tools, resources and strategies that will help build the capacity of their current programs as well as encourage sustainability. 

Institute participants will receive:
1. Program planning, implementation and evaluation checklists
2. A resource guide filled with after-school resources, helpful hints, ideas, Web sites, videos, local organizations,
publications and curriculum resources for planning after-school programs
3. Sample program models including sample staff training curriculum
4. User-friendly evaluation tools to measure program outcomes and evaluation
5. A Certificate of Completion

Sample workshop topics include:
1. Designing Program Goals, Objectives and Measuring Outcomes
2. Effective Strategies for Academic Preparation and Advisement
3. Strategic Tutoring Principles: The Difference Between Homework Help and Building Skills
4. Strategies to Close the Achievement Gap in English Literacy - Elementary, Middle and High School
5. Strategies to Close the Achievement Gap in Math Literacy - Elementary, Middle and High School
6. Creating New Ideas, Building Coalitions: Effective Program Integration & Collaboration
7. Effective Methods of Academic Advisement
8. Building Academic Supportive Relationships with Families
9. Program Curriculum Research, Selection and Implementation Strategies
10. Sustaining Program Funding Resources
